CIBJO’s Munich congress ends

CIBJO, the World Jewellery Confederation, has concluded its annual congress at the International Congress Centre in Munich, Germany.

The four-day event saw 135 delegates from national jewellery, gemstones and precious metals associations worldwide, as well as representatives of many of the largest multinational corporations involved in the industry, attend panels debating a wide range of issues concerning the international jewellery sector.

Among the most significant decisions made during CIBJO 2010 was a decision to broaden the number of acceptable terms used for  synthetics diamonds, the release by the CIBJO Gemology Commission of the Gemology Laboratory Blue Book, the approval by the CIBJO Colored Stone Commission of a set of codes to be used within the industry to describe gem treatments, the release of a new appendix to the Precious Metals Blue Book giving information on the precious metal, and the release by the CIBJO Marketing & Education Commission of a diamond, coloured gemstone, pearl and precious metals guide for jewellery consumers.
