Hannah Martin wins the Mastercut Diamond Jubilee competition
The designer won for her ring, which was called Ring of Fire
The CMJ-exclusive diamond brand created the competition in order to foster creative talent and the brief was to design an innovative piece of jewellery that would contain 20 Mastercut diamonds.
“The idea behind the piece was to create a twist on the idea of diamonds as a symbol of eternal love,” said Martin. “The diamonds form an eternal circle on top of the finger but are set within hard-edged, sculptural forms inspired by architecture and the heavy machinery used in diamond mining.
She added: “I wanted to create a piece that represented the strength and passion in the stones and the emotions that are tied up in them. When you are wearing the ring it should feel like a symbol of power burning on your finger.”
Speaking about the winning entry, James Maxwell, managing partner of 21st Dimension, the distributor of Mastercut in the UK said: “The winning entry is a strong contemporary design yet its inspirations are perfectly aligned with the brand ethos of Mastercut.”
The design will be manufactured by Mastercut and will be exhibited during London Jewellery Week and at the CMJ Summer Trade event in August. It will also be at IJL in September and will tour the country to be exhibited at selected Mastercut stockists.
