Cambridge jeweller reaches wider audience with own radio show
Radio programme the Star Fashion Show, hosted by Vanessa Burkitt, MD of jewellery retailer Catherine Jones of Cambridge, launched on Star Radio last night.
Yesterday evening’s airing was the first in a series of 30-minute programmes broadcast to the Cambridge region, that will look at top trends in fashion, jewellery, accessories and beauty and will run fortnightly initially before becoming a weekly show in December.
Jeweller Burkitt was approached by Mark Peters, MD of Star Radio, to front the show. She said: “I’d done a number of interviews for the station on the different awards the company has won locally and nationally, as well as on ethical sourcing of diamonds and gold which are big issues for Catherine Jones.
“A month back, when we won a prestigious award scoring 100% for customer service in a stores survey run by Skillsmart, I was a guest on the radio station’s Business Hub. After the show, I took a call from Mark who asked whether I would consider presenting a new show for him.”
Before taking on her mother’s business, Catherine Jones Jewellery with her son in 2003, Burkitt had been a producer for BBC Television with a political specialism.
The new radio show is magazine format with news and interviews looking at styles and trends in fashion, jewellery, accessories and beauty – for men as well as women. Among its guests, the first programme welcomed designer-goldsmith Andrew Geoghegan, who talked about the popularity of colour in jewellery this year.
Burkitt added: “The show is significant opportunity for reaching a wide audience and talking to the great independent businesses in the region. It’s a hugely exciting initiative and working in partnership with Star Radio is proving a mutually supportive venture.”
