NAG supports Independents' Day 2012

The National Association of Goldsmiths (NAG) has pledged to support national campaign Independents’ Day, aimed at celebrating the UK’s independent retailers.

The event is being launched by Skillsmart Retail, the Sector Skills Council for Retail, and will take place on July 4, in reference to the American holiday, Independence Day. Skillsmart Retail is encouraging retailers to get the public excited about their local independent retailers by asking them to purchase at least one item from one of their local independent shops.

Independent retailers make up 92% of all retail businesses in the UK so they are extremely important to a location’s economy, identity and community. Now in its second year, the campaign celebrates diversity on the high street and recognises the skills behind the shop front.

The NAG, along with other trade associations including British Independent Retailers Association (BIRA), Entertainment Retailers Association (ERA) and Northern Ireland Independent Retail Trade Association (NIIRTA) are excited about supporting this day.

Retailers are encouraged to download the campaign posters from www.retailindieday.com to celebrate the day in their stores. The campaign also hopes to get independent retailers to join forces with other retailers and town centre teams to hold special events and really capture the public’s attention.
