Victorinox promotes sustainable design
Watch brand Victorinox Swiss Army has launched a project to stimulate ideas to promote responsible and sustainable design.
The brand, which is known for promoting sustainable practices, initially launched the year-long two-part Time to Care project at Baselworld with a travelling photo exhibition named The Spirit of Innovation and Sustainability. The exhibition features photos and videos of international innovators showing their contribution to sustainable design, and is aimed at highlighting achievements in the field and inspiring new projects, and also showcases the Victorinox Swiss Army Alliance watch and chronograph range.
For the second part of the project, Victorinox has tasked students at some of the world’s leading design schools, including Central Saint Martins in the UK, to submit projects about sustainable design, to be judged by a jury of designers and Victorinox Swiss Army executives. The chosen project will receive the brand’s Sustainable Design Award.
Speaking exclusively to Retail Jeweller about the project, the brand’s international marketing director Daniela Leone said: “Today, sustainable practices are more important than ever. Therefore, in today’s world of depleting resources and climatic change, better design means sustainable design. We want to share ideas on the subject, draw attention to the work of some of the world’s most interesting sustainable innovators, and provide a platform for young innovators to develop their own ideas for sustainability.”
She added: “In so doing, Victorinox Swiss Army is able to celebrate the Time to Care that is the basis of its international fame, and, at the same time, actively foster and celebrate the sustainable design of today and tomorrow.”
Speaking about the initiative and the brand’s own history as a pioneer of energy conservation and recycling she said: “In a world of dwindling resources, these types of initiative take on new urgency.”
