Accessorize has been forced to withdraw earrings from the market in Denmark after it was discovered that the jewellery poses a chemical risk. The retailer was ordered by authorities to ban the sale of the silver diamante hoop earrings, which were found to release lead.

A spokesperson for Acessorize said: “A product was removed from sale due to local regulations in Denmark. Our products comply with EU regulations and do not present any risks to either people’s health or the environment.”

The earrings were made in China and retailed in stores for Kr115 (£13.70).
