Fei Liu shares his experience with young designers in Birmingham

Designer Fei Liu shared his experience of how to run a commercial business with young designers at a talk in Birmingham last week.

Liu gave the talk young designers from the Birmingham Design Space, which is scheme giving those young designers a free workshop to help them launch their businesses.

Liu is one of a number of jewellery designers who have been invited over the years to provide advice and guidance. He talked the students through how he started his business and shared with them the hard lessons he has learned along the way. After a two-hour seminar, the students were invited to ask additional questions.

Liu said: “I wanted to use this seminar to help these young designers by giving them an insight into what it is like to run a commercial business. Talking to them about my own experiences, both good and not so good, will hopefully enable them to understand how to gain the most out of opportunities presented to them. I also wanted to encourage them to push themselves and drive their businesses forward. The key thing I hope they gained through my talk is the importance of being adaptable.”
