Fei Liu to promote young British talent in China

British jewellery designer Fei Liu has launched an initiative to promote young British design talent in China.

Liu, who divides his time between the UK and China, will be offering 10 designers the chance to retail their collections in his gallery in Beijing.

Liu was inspired to launch this scheme by the success he has had in China and also by the demand from the next generation of Chinese consumers for more contemporary design-led jewellery.

“This is an excellent opportunity for UK designers to educate the Chinese market about what British design really means,” said Liu. “I want to showcase all craziness, quirkiness and adventurous mentality that British designers embody.”

Liu is also hoping that this exhibition will help UK designers expand into a market that is experiencing growth when the rest of the world is in economic turmoil. Economists have predicted China will grow well above 8% in 2012, which is being driven by the younger generations.

“I have spent two years working out what the Chinese consumer wants and think this will make them think differently about British jewellery design,” said Liu.

The 10 designers will be unveiled in September and their collections will be show at the gallery from November 5-20 this year.
