EC one celebrates young designers

EC One proved that is a great place for a rising jewellery designer to be, throwing a champagne and canapés party to celebrate new collections from designers Nicholas King and Fiona Paxton.

It’s easy to get sucked up in the whirlwind that is London Jewellery Week (LJW), but we all know the jewellery industry never sits still, and just around the corner from Treasure and Platform you would have found guests spilling out of EC One’s Exmouth Market store. The evening was designed to showcase collections by Nicholas and Fiona, and drew in a gaggle of friends, family, retailers, and of course the Retail Jeweller team.

Drinking champagne whilst diligently taking down notes, pad and pen in hand, is a fine art. One we have perfected. I got chatting to designer King about his new collection to find out what he was all about and why EC One was the best place for his work. “I came from a fashion background so this is really a continuation of that, I just wanted to do something sparkly. It all came together by accident, and now I’m listening to the stores to find out what sells,” he said. “EC One is really supportive to its young designers, so it’s a great place for me to be.”

EC One managing director Jos Skeates was on hand to entertain guests and lend the designers his support, saying the Exmouth Market store was the perfect venue to showcase their work. “We chose the designers because they are innovative and working in different materials. Both of them are very culturally aware and fashion focused and we thought it would be good to hold the event here where there is a slightly younger market,” he said.

Taking in the statement bracelets from King and the edgy looks on offer from Paxton it wasn’t hard to see this event had been such a draw, and it only served to highlight the fact that if you’re looking for great design talent - then you’d better pay a visit to EC One.
