Multiple retailer Beaverbrooks and Londonderry independent Sproules were the big winners at yesterday’s UK Jewellery Awards (UKJA) both walking away with two gongs each.
Beaverbrooks was crowned Employer of the Year before also picking up the evening’s Special Recognition Award for its contribution to the UK jewellery industry over its 100-year history.
Meanwhile Sproules was recognised for its ambitious refurbishment and store expansion in the Store Design of the Year category while also walking away with the hotly contested Retailer of the Year (five stores or fewer) award.
A full list of winners is available below but, other notable winners on the evening included Mappin & Webb which was awarded Retailer of the Year (six stores or more), Ntinga which was crowned Jewellery/Watch Supplier of the Year and Burrells which took home the Watch Retailer of the Year accolade, while the businesses’ new brand ambassador Dame Kelly Holmes looked on.
Almost 700 representatives from the UK jewellery and watch trade attended the awards ceremony, which was held at the Artillery Garden in the heart of the City of London.
Guests were treated to a three-course dinner, after awards entertainment in the form of dancing, a fun fair and a charity casino in aid of The British Jewellery and Giftware Federation Benevolent Society.
Ruth Faulkner, editor, Retail Jeweller, said: “As ever, this year’s UK Jewellery Awards proved to be the premium night in the trade’s calendar with almost 700 of the very best in the business in attendance to celebrate their achievements of the last 12 months and network with industry peers.
“It has been another challenging year for the UK high street but, we must not be despondent. Those who innovate continue to thrive and at the judging for this year’s awards, it was heartening to see so many businesses doing just that.
“The companies we celebrated at this year’s UK Jewellery Awards from across all areas of the industry and the supply chain must be applauded as the leading lights in our sector. So, to all our finalists and winners, congratulations, they really are the very best in the business.”
Welsh jewellery brand Clogau was headline partner of the event, while other sponsors on the night included Barclays, Citizen, the Company of Master Jewellers, De Beers Group Industry Services, Garmin, Hockley Mint, International Jewellery London, Jewellery & Watch, TH March and Uno de 50.
