Dorset-based independent Allum & Sidaway has added to what has already been an award-winning year by scooping the top prize at today’s Retail Jeweller Inspiring Independents event, held in association with the Company of Master Jewellers (CMJ).
The winners of this year’s competition were unveiled in a lunchtime awards ceremony at London’s Grange Holborn Hotel today (October 20), which saw Allum & Sidaway, who scooped the accolade for the best independent retailer in the south of the UK, also walk away with the top prize of overall Inspiring Independent 2017.
Other winners included Alexis Dove, which took home the award for Boutique Retailer of the Year, Argento, which collected the award for Branded Retailer of the Year, and Dominic Gomersall from Lumbers in Leicester, who was given the prize for Business Owner of the Year.
Regional highly commended retailers included Laings for Scotland and Ireland, Banks Lyon for the north of England, Lumbers for the Midlands and Mallory in Bath for the Southwest and Wales, as well as Allum & Sidaway for the South.
The event celebrated the 100 Inspiring Independents who make up this year’s list, all of whom were voted for by their peers in the jewellery industry.
This top 100 was then put to a panel of suppliers, who voted for the most inspiring retailer in each region, as well as each of the individual categories.
Overall winner Allum & Sidaway was praised by the supplier panel for its forward-thinking attitude to business, which also saw it scoop two UK Jewellery Awards earlier this year, as well as two local Wiltshire business awards.
Other partners of the event, in addition to CMJ were Brown & Newirth, ChloBo, Pursuit and TH March.
A full list of this year’s top 100 Inspiring Independents is available with the November issue of Retail Jeweller, which will be with subscribers at the beginning of next week.
