IJL revamps Editors’ Choice Awards for 2017

International Jewellery London (IJL) has announced the launch of its exhibitor Editors’ Choice Awards, unveiling a new format and categories for 2017.

Now in its ninth year, the competition has been extended to include a new format, together with new categories that reflect the breadth of innovative and commercial talent across all sectors of the show.

Four awards will be judged pre-show with the winners revealed in June, followed by a further four new categories judged during IJL by an extended panel of industry media editors.

The pre-show Editors’ Choice competition is now open for entries (closing date is May 12). IJL exhibitors can nominate pieces and collections for any of the following four categories: Technical Trailblazer, Trend Vision, Creative Originality and Commercial Mastermind.

Judging will take place in May by luxury communications consultant Claire Adler and IJL event director Sam Willoughby.

Willoughby said: “Always a high point of the event, these very competitive awards carry considerable kudos with both exhibitors and visitors alike.

“The new format and categories at the show give every level of exhibitor an even greater chance to shine, both before and during IJL – from new to returning brands, from young to established designers. The benefits of winning are considerable, attracting valuable recognition within the industry, as well as great PR. And what is particularly gratifying is that so many of the winners go on to receive yet more accolades within the sector.”

Adler added: “I’ve been an Editors’ Choice judge at IJL since it began in 2009 and it’s a highlight of my annual calendar. The competition is designed to inspire buyers as they navigate the show, while also recognising gifted designers and dynamic businesses that are making their mark on the jewellery industry. In 2017, I’m on the lookout for those who put their heart and soul into what they do, with quite literally show-stopping results.”

The four IJL show awards, with categories including Designer to Watch, Show Stopper, Visual Excellence and IJL Exhibitor of the Year will be shortlisted at IJL 2017 by a panel of media editors including Retail Jeweller’s editor Ruth Faulkner, with Sam Willoughby and Claire Adler casting the final votes. Results will be announced during the trade show, which runs from September 3 to 5, 2017.

Faulkner explained: “Retail Jeweller enjoys a strong ongoing relationship with International Jewellery London through its involvement as an official trade media partner of the show. The event brings together the very best in UK and international jewellery brands over what is always an exciting and inspiring event and I am delighted to have been asked this year to assist with judging the Editor’s Choice Award as part of the show.”
