Retail Jeweller launches Inspiring Independents 2017

Retail Jeweller has officially kicked off its annual search for the most inspiring independent jewellers in the UK and Ireland, in association with the Company of Master Jewellers (CMJ).

In order to find the names of the businesses that will make up this year’s top 100 list, those working in the jewellery and watch industries are asked to cast their votes for their top five most inspiring independent retailers in the UK and Ireland.

Votes can be cast in a matter of minutes via an online form, which can be accessed by clicking here

As with last year, Retail Jeweller’s Inspiring Independents 2017 in association with the CMJ will take the form of a sit-down awards lunch for all of those retailers that make the list.

As in past years, the list will not be chosen by the editorial team. In the first round of voting – open now until July 14 – anyone from the industry, including brands, manufacturers, suppliers, trade associations, retailers and PR companies, can select five independent retailers that they consider to be inspiring.

These independents may be nominated for various reasons. Some may offer phenomenal customer service, while others are brilliant at marketing or selecting the best up-and-coming brands and designers.

After this initial round of voting, the 100 retailers with the most votes will be presented to a panel of experts comprising representatives from the industry’s leading suppliers. This panel will review the list to ensure that it is a fair representation of businesses from across the industry that are all worthy of a place.

They will also then be asked to cast their votes for their top two independents in each of the following regions:

- Scotland and Ireland

- The North

- The Midlands

- The South

- The Southwest and Wales

In addition, the suppliers will also be asked to select from the list the best overall retailer in each of the following categories:

- Branded retailer

- Boutique/Designer retailer

- Business owner

Based on the results of the voting, awards will be given to the winners of the Branded retailer, Boutique/Designer retailer and Business Owner categories.

Highly commended awards will be given to a retailer from each region, with the overall retailer with the most votes across all five regions being crowned the most Inspiring Independent.

All results will be revealed and the awards presented at a dedicated lunchtime awards ceremony on Friday, October 20 at the Grange Holborn Hotel in London.

Retail Jeweller is honoured to be hosting the event and associated supplement in association with the CMJ, together with other sponsor partners ChloBo, Pursuit and TH March.

Retail Jeweller Inspiring Independents 2017

This year’s event is being held in association with the Company of Master Jewellers

Editor of Retail Jeweller Ruth Faulkner explained: “We are delighted to welcome back the CMJ as headline partner of these awards for the third year in a row.

“As the UK’s largest collective of independent retail jewellers it is a natural choice for us to help support this important initiative, and we really appreciate its ongoing support.

“As organisers and custodians of the annual UK Jewellery Awards, we at Retail Jeweller understand the real importance and value of recognising and rewarding good business practice and we wanted to ensure the independent sector, which makes up such a huge part of this trade, had its very own awards ceremony.

“Last year’s lunchtime awards format proved to be extremely popular with all those businesses that made the list and we hope that this year many more will be able to join us to attend this free event in recognition of their achievements.”
