Retail Jeweller launches Rising Stars 30 Under 30 2019 in association with Thomas Sabo

Retail Jeweller’s initiative to recognise and reward young talent from across the industry, Rising Stars 30 Under 30, has officially launched for 2019, supported by jewellery brand Thomas Sabo.

The now annual supplement and associated event profiles 30 of the jewellery and watch industry’s brightest talents, aged 30 and under, from a variety of disciplines who have all made a difference to the businesses they work for.

This year, Retail Jeweller is delighted to welcome on-board jewellery brand Thomas Sabo as official partner of the initiative for the first time.

Commenting on the brand’s decision to support Rising Stars, Thomas Sabo UK head of wholesale, Darrell Granton explained: “Thomas Sabo is delighted to be sponsoring Retail Jeweller’s Rising Stars 2019.

“In 2019, we celebrate 35 years of the jewellery company that Mr. Sabo created in his early 20’s. Thomas Sabo has always been the leader within the evolving landscape of our industry through the past decades. It is his vision and drive at such a young age that still captivates and inspires us all today.

“Change comes from within and we nurture and explore new talent. In our German HQ, we run apprenticeship schemes, which support young talent and create future stars across the whole of our business and industry.

“Within the Thomas Sabo UK team, we recognise all of our colleagues across all departments. We are people centric and we embrace each other to drive the business from good to great. It’s young, dynamic blood that drives our industry forward and we will continue to invest into our business for the next 35 years and beyond.

“That’s why we are very pleased to support the ‘Rising Stars’ category further. We will additionally mentor young talent from those commended, so they can experience for themselves how diverse our business and industry is, from jewellery design to retail operations.”

Retail Jeweller editor Ruth Faulkner added: “The aim of Rising Stars 30 Under 30 is to build greater awareness of the career paths available to young people in the jewellery and watch trade, as well as giving up-and-coming industry talent a chance to shine.

“We are extremely pleased to be working with Thomas Sabo on this important industry initiative for 2019.”

In 2019, Retail Jeweller, together with Thomas Sabo, will host a networking event for all successful Rising Stars, which will also see past 30 Under 30 alumni return to speak to next year’s cohort.

The list of 30 Rising Stars will be split up into five separate categories with six under 30s being sought in each of the following areas, spanning different sections of the industry, as follows:

· Designers/Designer Makers (can work for their own brand or as a designer for a brand/manufacturer)

· Retail, buying and merchandising (can include store staff as well as retail buyers and retail or brand merchandisers)

· Manufacturing, industry and apprentices

· Marketing/PR

· Sales and administration (not retail sales but can include sales for a brand, finance, support and administrative roles)
