In Retail Jeweller’s Rising Stars 30 Under 30 supplement we present the amazing young talent that exists in the industry. Here we look at Gabriela Kucharska.
DOB 25/11/95 Age 20
20-year-old Gabriela Kucharska started her training as a goldsmith on the Foundation Programme at The Goldsmiths’ Centre in Clerkenwell. In 2015, she made history by becoming the first ever Fine Jewellery Design Apprentice, under The Goldsmiths’ Company Apprenticeship Scheme, at Cleave & Company, something that she describes as “really exciting”.
In the same year, she won joint-Gold at the Goldsmiths’ Craft and Design Council Awards (Fashion Jewellery QVC Special Award) for her intricate hand-drawn design of a Feather Boa Necklace.
Kucharska credits the Foundation Programme at The Goldsmiths’ Centre for much of her success to date, saying it really helped her to develop her skills. She says the inspiration for her designs comes from many different sources, explaining: “When I travel, I take a little booklet with me and, if I see something of interest, I sketch.”
