Shop prices fall for first time since October Subscription
According to the British Retail Consortium (BRC)-Nielsen Shop Price Index shop prices turned deflationary for the first time since October 2018.
A group of businesses and trade bodies representing the retail sector have written to the home secretary and other ministers, calling for more to be done to tackle widespread violence and abuse against shopworkers.
The total number of people employed in retail jobs on the high street has dropped in every region except London between 2012 and 2017.
Signet Group, the parent company of UK multiple jewellery retailers H Samuel and Ernest Jones, saw total sales fall by 3.3% to $1.43bn (£1.12bn) in the 13 weeks to May 4, 2019.
