Keyed up

There are some television shows that have a fashion ripple effect. Sex and the City had it in spades, while Dynasty made shoulder pads and ozone-holing levels of hairspray practically obligatory in the 1980s.

Gossip Girl is the noughties equivalent. There is something for every fashion personality - slightly dishevelled bombshell (Serena); Upper East Side ingénue (Blair) or “found your outfit in a bin behind a strip joint” chic (Little J). For those who like a little androgyny you can even take tips from Chuck Bass.

This season, having made it to Columbia and into the co-ed social club Hamilton House (obviously I never watch the show…), Blair and Serena have been sporting the House’s sought-after keys around their necks. I liked the detail, liked that the girls were wearing them on different chains - I’m sure I saw Blair wearing her hanging of a strand of pearls one episode, but, like I say, I don’t really watch it.

Leighton Meester as Blair Waldorf in Gossip Girl

I thought it just might be something the jewellery industry would be cottoning on to next year. So you can imagine my fashion excitement when I went to the Guess press day and saw keys on pieces. It confirmed my personal trend predictions.

I may not live on the Upper East Side, have access to a parental bank account that allows me to spend a small fortune in Celine, but I am certainly going to be working the key trend next year. And I am sure many Gossip girl acolytes will be wanting to as well. You might want to stock up on some now.

You know you love me

Xoxo RJ Ed

Gossip Girl is on ITV 2 on Wednesdays at 8pm
