In Retail Jeweller’s first Rising Stars 30 Under 30 supplement we present the amazing young talent that exists in the industry. Here we look at Josh Getting.
Sales assistant, RL Austen
DOB 09/92 Age 22
Getting joined the team at Chichester-based independent jeweller RL Austen in 2012 as a temporary sales assistant for three months. At that time, he had no previous watch or jewellery sales experience.
However, such was his enthusiasm and rapport with customers, at the end of the three-month period, RL Austen’s managing director Mandy Sargeant asked Getting if he wished to stay on as a full-time permanent employee.
Since then, he has gone on to complete his JET 1 and JET 2, both with excellent grades and, according to Sargeant, has one of the highest sales turnovers of any of the staff in the store.
Getting has a real passion for watches and, after completing training at Rolex, Tudor and Longines, he will be heading to Basel this March. While Getting’s contractual hours state an 8.30am start, he actually arrives for work at 7am purely to undertake all the administrative duties for repairs and then help with dressing the windows before the shop opens at 9.15am.
