In Retail Jeweller’s first Rising Stars 30 Under 30 supplement we present the amazing young talent that exists in the industry. Here we look at Will Lander.
Apprentice diamond mounter, Harriet Kelsall Bespoke Jewellery
DOB 26/05/1991 Age 23
After his A-Levels, Will Lander had secured a university place to study politics. However, he subsequently decided to enter the world of work directly, and it is fortunate for the jewellery industry that he did.
Just over 18 months into his five-year apprenticeship with eponymous fine jewellery retailer Harriet Kelsall Bespoke Jewellery, Lander is already gaining recognition for his work. In November last year he was awarded gold in the Fine Jewellery Making category at the World Skills UK Show at the Birmingham NEC.
An apprentice with The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths, Lander spends half his time on training projects (under the watchful eye of chief goldsmith Richard Tunstall, his tutor at the goldsmiths’ company and Kelsall), and the other half working on bespoke customer projects.
His career progression has been meteoric, as he learns both bench and life skills in the workplace.
