As Worcestershire-based retailer Anja Potze Fine Jewellery marks its 21st anniversary, we chatted to the eponymous designer about her time in the industry.
Q: How did you start out in the jewellery trade?
A: I moved to England from the Netherlands when I was just 21 years of age. At first I worked for a small number of high end jewellers, including five years with London-based Asprey & Garrard Group, where my customers included the late Baroness Thatcher among other notable names. In 1994, I struck out alone and founded Anja Potze Fine Jewellery, specialising in jewellery made from certified diamonds and the finest Tahitian, South Sea and cultured pearls, which I buy from reputable suppliers all around the world. I take great pride in being one of Worcester’s independent traders and I love the city of Worcester.
Q: How are you marking 21 years in the industry?
A: I wanted to mark our 21st birthday with a series of events that involve all of our loyal customers, old and new. We have held a showcase event, as well as networking events, and a fashion event with other local businesses. Each one has been really well received.
Q: What has been your highlight?
A: There are too many highlights to pick out one! Designing jewellery for Margaret Thatcher was a special highlight in my career, and purchasing my new shop a few years ago was a milestone for the business. It has enabled us to grow further, add to the team and showcase new designs.
Q: What are the plans for 2017?
A: We’ve got an exciting year ahead of us and have already had a successful period around Valentine’s Day. We need to maintain our reputation for first-class customer service, making sure that even the smallest details are perfect. It’s another big year for us.
