Following the news that One Marylebone is set to be transformed into the world’s first wedding retail destination from next year, Ruth Faulkner caught up with curators Anna McGregor & Lotte Martin to find out what they are looking for from jewellery suppliers.
Q: What is the thinking behind launching The Wedding Gallery?
A: We had three main objectives when planning The Wedding Gallery. Firstly we really wanted to harmonise the wedding experience for clients, giving them a luxury environment in which to plan their day and engage with the right brands. Secondly, we aim to create a hub for the industry in which wedding and retail professionals and can come together to share ideas and creativity and finally, to create a platform for a variety of brands across a broad range of styles and price points, including emerging designers and companies.
Q: How big a part will jewellery play in The Wedding Gallery?
A: Jewellery will play a vital role in The Wedding Gallery, as it is such an important part of the wedding planning process, not to mention an opportunity for people to create treasured heirlooms. The Wedding Gallery will be able to offer a broad range of jewellery services, from bespoke engagement rings to on the day wedding pieces for brides, grooms and bridal parties.
Q: What are you looking for when it comes to deciding which brands/designers will be included?
A: We’re looking for a broad range of styles and price points and an unrivalled level of customer service which goes in line with the ethos of the Gallery.
Q: More specifically, what are you looking for when it comes to sourcing jewellery brands and/or designers?
A: A number of our jewellery brands will need to offer a bespoke design service, alongside a collection of engagement and wedding day jewellery. We want the brands to each offer something different, to cover a range of aesthetics and price points therefore catering to a wider selection of brides and grooms.
Q: What does your experience tell you about what Brides and Grooms are looking for when it comes to their wedding jewellery?
A: The wedding jewellery process can be a little intimidating for many clients, particularly if they are looking to have a bespoke piece made. Many clients are unsure of where to go, and how to approach people, so The Gallery will take away this element of mystery. There is no way of telling how people will allocate their budget when planning their wedding - gone are the days when people split it up in a formulaic way. With this in mind, The Wedding Gallery will be accessible to all, as even those with a lower overall budget will look to bring in luxury elements into some areas of the planning and day itself.
