Markle selects Birks jewellery for official engagement announcement

Royal-bride-to-be Meghan Markle selected a pair of earrings from Canadian jewellery brand Birks for her official engagement photo-call with Prince Harry yesterday afternoon (November 27).

The 18ct gold stud earrings, which retail for £850, are called Les Plaisirs de BirksTM and feature white opals in the centre.

Birks, which was founded in Montreal, Canada in 1879, is Canada’s leading designer, manufacturer and retailer of fine gold, diamond and silver jewellery.

The brand entered the UK market earlier this year, following Aurum Holdings’ acquisition of US-based Mayors, which has 17 stores in Florida and Georgia, from Birks Group.

As part of the agreement, Birks has entered into a five-year distribution agreement with Aurum to sell Birks own manufactured jewellery in the UK through Aurum’s Mappin & Webb, Goldsmiths stores and on its e-commerce sites.
