Seiko launches automobile-inspired Astron GPS Solar

Watch brand Seiko has launched a new variant of its Astron GPS Solar watch combining its own solar technology with a design by Italian automobile engineer and design house, Giugiaro.

The limited edition SSE121. Seiko Astron Giugiaro Design Limited Edition with an Astron 8X82 chronograph calibre, draws on the Giugiaro design concept that first appeared in 1983 when Seiko’s quartz chronograph was at the cutting edge of watch technology.

The new timepiece will be available in a limited edition of 3,000 pieces and will be available from retail outlets worldwide from July 2017.

The Astron Calbire 8X82 measures elapsed time up to six hours and offers the precision of one second every hundred thousand years. The timepiece adjusts to local time zones with the touch of a button using the pwer of light.

The case and bracelet are crafted in titanium with a scratch-resistant black coating. In homage to Giugiaro, the watch features red and green accents and an wheel-design motif on the case back.
